Assam Budget: Sports complexes and village Olympics

Guwahati, July 16: The 2021-22 fiscal budget which was tabled today proposed to construct multi-disciplinary sports complexes in different parts of the State in a phased manner apart from other announcements.

A total of Rs. 143.11 Crore has been earmarked for sports development.

Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog who tabled the budget said that with a view to bringing about overall development of sports in the State and for identification and harnessing sports talents, "our government proposes to construct multi-disciplinary sports complexes in different parts of the State in a phased manner."

The government is also proposing 100 units of open air gym across the State.

"Additionally, one swimming pool, one mini gym in all districts and sub-divisional headquarters is being proposed. We are also reviving the Assam Flying Club Ltd as a Centre of Excellence in aviation sector at Lilabari," Neog said.

She also said that village Olympics will be conducted at Gaon Panchayat, Block and District levels.
