Guwahati, Jan 19: The Assam government has announced a series of recruitment-related relaxations and administrative measures aimed at benefiting job aspirants and state employees, with a key decision being the enhancement of the age limit for Assam Police constable recruitment.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a live interaction on social media on Sunday, said the government has decided to raise the maximum age limit for police constable recruitment from 25 to 26 years.

The minimum age, however, will remain unchanged at 18 years. “The Assam government has decided that instead of 25 years, 26 years will be the maximum age limit for police recruitment. This will benefit aspirants, and the application window will also be extended by 15 days,” Sarma said.

In another significant announcement, the Chief Minister said the “Swagata Satirtha” portal will be reopened to facilitate mutual transfers for third and fourth category government employees. The portal allows employees seeking transfers to swap postings with willing counterparts.

“I want to inform that the Swagata Satirtha portal will reopen so that third and fourth category workers can apply for mutual transfers,” Sarma said.

He further added that the portal will be opened in the first week of February for candidates who appeared in this year’s Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE), as well as for government employees seeking mutual transfers.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiative is expected to benefit a large number of applicants.

Addressing concerns raised by persons with disabilities (PwDs), Sarma announced that the government will allow a second medical examination during the recruitment process. He said the decision was taken after requests from specially abled candidates.

“Many specially abled candidates requested a second medical test. Since I listen to the people, a second medical examination will be provided. However, if a person is not a PwD, they will not be eligible for recruitment under the PwD category,” he clarified.

On the issue of Venture school teachers, the Chief Minister said he has instructed the Education Department to open the application portal at the earliest.

He expressed confidence that Education Minister Ranoj Pegu would take steps to operationalise the portal soon.

The announcements are expected to bring relief to thousands of job seekers and government employees across Assam, particularly those affected by age limits, transfer constraints and medical assessment issues in ongoing recruitment processes.
