Silchar, May 24: Anticipating the impact of cyclonic storm Yaas which is making over east central Bay of Bengal and it's possible effect to be felt in parts of Assam, the Karimganj district administration has put the response forces on alert mode.

In response to the letter from Assam State Disaster Management Authority(ASDMA) to all Deputy Commissioners on Monday, with forecast of light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places because of cyclonic storm Yaas lashing across east central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday till midnight, the district administration authorities have directed the response forces to keep vigil in the riverine and flood prone areas. The district authorities have asked the Fire and Emergency Services, NDRF, SDRF, Civil Defence and other response forces to remain on alert mode in the event of any exigency.


Meanwhile, gusty wind accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed Karimganj and adjoining areas of Barak Valley on Monday evening.
