Another paper mill employee died, tally reaches 89

Hailakandi, June 13: With the death of another employee of defunct Cachar Paper Mill, the tally goes to 89 including 4 suicide.


Abdul Hannan, a resident of Panchgram of Hailakandi district, who was working in the Paper Machine department of the mill, passed away on Saturday. He leaves behind wife, two sons and a daughter. He was 54.

Cachar Paper Project Workers' & Employees Union (Independent) expressed shock at the untimely demise of the employee and expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and relatives. The general secretary, AR Mazumder said, 'Abdul Hannan left us for good without treatment as the government withheld his salary for the last 54 months'.

'We express our deepest condolences on the untimely death of Abdul Hannan and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and well-wishers', he added. The two paper mills - Cachar Paper Mill and Panchgram in Hailakandi district and Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad in Morigaon district - both units of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited - have been in non-functional condition since October, 2015 and March, 2017 respectively. Their employees have not got their salaries for the past many months respectively.

The government has finally decided to sell both the mills.
