Silchar, July 27: At a time when fresh tension along the Assam Mizoram inter-state border has triggered serious concerns, All India Mahila Congress chief and former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev has questioned the effectiveness of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) in solving the border dispute between the two neighbouring states.

Talking to media persons at the Congress Bhawan here on Monday, Sushmita said, " why is the NEDA not effective amidst such a crisis now. The border dispute between Assam and Mizoram has actually dished out the fact that NEDA is a fraud alliance. What solution did the meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram yield? It is crystal clear that the NEDA is an association formed for winning elections."

Further, Dev said that amidst constant statements on the border dispute are being issued by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is also the NEDA convener and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, which authority in Mizoram is moving ahead with the alleged encroachment into Assam land.

" If things are done by any non-Governmental agency, it is clearly a law and order issue. Things must be made clear which authority or group in Mizoram is calling the shots leading to the interstate dispute," the AIMC chief questioned.
