Hailakandi, Aug 24: All sorts of construction work will be stopped in Assam-Mizoram bordering areas. This has been decided by both the state governments in the chief secretary level virtual meeting on Monday. It can be mentioned here that the tension escalated in Assam-Mizoram bordering Kachurthal area couple of days ago following the construction of a culvert by the Mizoram in Assam's Kachurthal area of Hailakandi district. Following the construction of culvert, patrolling was intensified with bulletproof vehicle in Assam side. Mizoram also filed FIR against Assam Government alleging the theft of construction materials. Later the materials were returned to Mizoram government.

The Police Super of Hailakandi, Gaurav Upadhyay informed that the meeting between the chief secretaries of both the states on Monday decided to abstain from all sorts of construction work. Upadhyay said that Assam police received the information of construction of culvert in Kachurthal area and a police team from nearby Ramnathpur police station rushed to the spot and seized some abandoned construction materials on August 20. Later on August 22, a team of Mizoram police comprising 40-50 jawans entered in Assam area violating border rules. On order to avoid any untoward incident, high officials of both the states met in the border and decided to stop the construction work. Assam police also returned the seized materials to the Officer in Charge of Bairabi police station, he added. SP hoped that the Mizoram police will abide by the decision of chief secretary.
