ACS, ALRS officers in Cachar protest over assault on Election Officer by Satgaon OC
Guwahati, March 10: In protest against the alleged manhandling of Bibhash Medhi ACS, Election Officer and Executive Magistrate South Salmara Manachar by Officer- In- Charge Pranjit Lahkar of Satgaon Police station in Kamrup Metro on Monday, the ACS and ALRS officers under the ACS Officers Association, Cachar Unit along with the ALRS Officers Association of Cachar Unit, in sync with the rest of the state staged a demonstration on Thursday.
Seen with placards in their hands within the premise of the Cachar Deputy Commissioner, the officers including JR Lalsim, Joint Secretary, Rajib Roy DDC Cachar, Navanita Hazarika Election Officer Cachar, demanded exemplary strict action as per law immediately against Pranjit Lahkar, OC, Satgaon PS for his wrongful doings so that no such unfortunate incident happen any further.
"The assault on Election Officer Medhi while filing a complaint at Satgaon Police Station, Kamrup (M) is an assault to every common man of the state. The erring police officer should be immediately brought to book and exemplary punishment should be meted out on him by the system," the protesting officials echoed.
Election Officer Navanita Hazarika informed that through the Cachar Deputy Commissioner, a memorandum highlighting their demand has been submitted to Chief Secretary Government of Assam, Home & Political Department, Assam, Director General of Police, Assam, Principal Secretary to the CM Secretariat, Chairman, State Police Accountability Commission, Assam and Secretary, Assam Human Rights Commission, Assam.
"Whoever the person may be, it is the duty of the government servant, including the police, to honour every individual and dignity of all. In this case, the OC has not only deprived an aggrieved person of his rights but also disrespected and assaulted an officer superior to him. Deeply saddened and shocked by the barbaric action of the OC, we unequivocally condemn this action and demand immediate suspension and dismissal of the said police officer," the officials mentioned in the memorandum.
