Raha , Nov 7 : The 9th edition of TG Baruah Memorial Youth Cup Karate Championship is underway at Mahendra Hazarika Bhawan, Raha from Friday .
Former Minister and present Samuguri MLA Rockybul Hussain, local MLA of Raha Sashikanta Das and Additional Superintendent of Police (Security), Nagoan Nirupam Hazarika were present in the opening ceremony of the Championship as the Guests on Saturday.
The 3 days event began with reporting of all players, Kumite seminars, referee and judges seminar followed by training camp under the national standard coach.
A total of 530 players from 18 different UKAA district unit Dhubri, Barpeta, Baksa, Kamrup Rural, Kamrup Metro, Darrang, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Titabar, Golaghat, Karimganj, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Morigaon and host Nagaon have registered their names on Saturday to participate in the event.
Altogether 75 different event categories were played for children (7-13 years), youth (14-17 years) & U-21 years (18-20 years) in the championship.
UKAA working President Mrs Sharmila Deka, Vice President Narayan Kumar Radukakati, General Secretary Nagen Bongjang, Joint Secretaries Hasmat Ali, Hemanta Das, Nishith Chakraborty, Prasanta P Saikia, Monjit Hazarika were also present in the inaugural ceremony of the championship.
The TG Baruah trophy and cash prize will be awarded to the best children players (10-13 yrs) and best youth players (14-17 yrs) both male and female in the championship.
The Assam team for KIO North East Zone Karate Championship, 2021 to be held in Assam on December next will be selected from this championship event , the organisers informed.
