Silchar, Oct 26: The 6th Assam Police battalion organised a band display rally on Tuesday in honour of the martyred police officials and jawans and commemorating their supreme sacrifices.

The band display started from Rangirkhari point and walked up to the Premtola point of the town echoing the tunes which drew a lot of public attention. Hemanta Kumar Singha, Subedar Major at the battalion accompanied the band.

While talking to The Assam Tribune, Rajamarthandan N, IPS the commandant of the battalion stationed at Kathal Road, said, "like every year, the Police Commemoration Day was observed on October 21 to remember the martyrs who died in the line of duty in the past one year. As a part of the occasion, police flags were distributed among the officials and jawans as well. This year, following the instructions of our honourable DGP sir who had said that instead of the commemoration day being just a one-day affair, one week programme including components like painting competition, unity run and band display is being taken up to honour and remember the sacrifices of the police persons and even jawans from the paramilitary forces. We cooperated with the District Police and according to the Cachar SP, some locations within the town are given to us and the band reaches to those locations so that the public can witness the performances of the state police force. We are also planning to organize a unity run of 5km at our battalion on Wednesday and also a mock drill on counter-insurgency on October 31."
