Hailakandi, Sept 22: 14 land brokers have been arrested in Hailakandi. All of them have been produced in the court and they have been sent to five days police remand.
Hailakandi's SP Gaurav Upadhyay informed that they are being interrogated. More arrests may be made soon, he hinted. Meanwhile, people started protests after the arrest of two suspected land brokers in the Algapur area and they blocked NH154 for their release. The protest was led by Algapur MLA Nizam Uddin Choudhury on Tuesday. Police later released them.
After the release of two persons, MLA Choudhury told the media that he welcomes the decision of the Chief Minister to arrest the land brokers but he will not tolerate the arrest of innocent persons and assured that he will handover them to police if any evidence found against them.
Meanwhile police later at night arrested both of them and produced them in the court.
