Assam win 4 golds in North East Games

GUWAHATI, April 26 (PTI): Assam today bagged four golds to top the medal tally with Manipur and Tripura getting two gold medals each in the 25th edition of the North East Games, which was kicked off at Dirang in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh last evening. Nagaland with one gold took the fourth spot while host Arunachal was in the fifth position with one silver and three bronze medals.

The first gold medal for Assam came this morning in the man�s shotput. Assam won two more golds in badminton singles event in both men and women categories. The state also bagged a gold and a silver in women shotput.

The total number of medals for Assam in the second day of the six-day sporting extravaganza shot up to 7 followed by Manipur with equal number of total medals (Gold 2, silver 1 and bronze 4). Tripura got 2 golds and one bronze to take the third position followed by Nagaland (gold 1, silver 2 and bronze 2), Mizoram (silver 2 and bronze 1) and host Arunachal with one silver and three bronze medals.

Sikkim and Meghalaya are yet to open their accounts.
