Assam University V-C takes charge

SILCHAR, May 16 - Professor Dilip Chandra Nath assumed office as the 6th vice-chancellor of Assam University on Monday.

In a brief function held at the university, Professor Nath took over charges from the outgoing vice-chancellor in-charge Professor RR Dhamala.

Talking to this correspondent after taking charge, Professor Nath said, �Efforts have been made in the past to steer this university towards excelsior. However, the university has not been able to reach up to the expected levels. My objective would be to make this university visible in the academic map of India.�

The new vice-chancellor held talks with officials of various departments, and also with the students. He said that he will attend to the student's issues once their exams are over.

He also reiterated that shaping the career of these students and likewise setting up of a congenial atmosphere for studying in the university would be his top priority.
