SILCHAR, March 3 - A day after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Research Centre to be set up across 80 bighas of land within the premises of Assam University Silchar, the authorities of the varsity have placed a demand for the post of a chair professor and fellowship for better research activities at the centre.

Sharing his happiness over the decision by the Government to select the varsity for the research centre, Professor Dilip Chandra Nath told The Assam Tribune on Sunday, so far we are not totally aware about the modus operandi of the Government on the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Research Centre for which the university premises has been selected.

However, we would demand creation of a post of a chair professor in the name of the great Indian saint reformer and at least two fellowship programmes which shall make the initiative academically more meaningful.

Professor Nath added that a detailed talk across the table between the Government and authorities of the varsity on the operational aspects of the research centre and how the university can contribute more shall add to augment the coming up of the research centre.

It may be mentioned here that Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned during the first phase for construction of the cultural research centre.
