Assam, Tripura Left parties to hold agitation

NILAMBAZAR, Sept 23 - The Assam and Tripura Communist parties are going to launch a joint movement against the Centre and the respective State governments over the deplorable condition of the National Highways in Barak valley.

Addressing mediapersons recently, members of the Karimganj CPM said that as per joint agreement held recently at Agartala, both the State committees have decided to launch an agitational programme at Luairpua,Karimganj on September 27. They alleged that even after several demands and agitations, the Government of Assam and the Centre have not taken any initiative for repairing the national highways of Barak Valley. The present condition of the Assam-Tripura NH from Malidahar (Meghalaya) to Churaibari (Assam) portion is very deplorable.They said that NHs 6 and 8 are the lifelines of Assam,Tripura and Mizoram states.

The construction company, ARSS has failed to complete the construction work of NH 8 due to political interference, they alleged.The Railways are going to start a mega block from Badarpur to Agartala from October 1 due to gauge conversion work, which will turn the situation critical in the region.
