Assam trader goes missing near Dalu

By Correspondent

TURA, June 1 - A trader from Hatsingimari in Assam is suspected to have been kidnapped after he failed to return to the vehicle he had arrived in, to carry goods from Dimapara under the Dalu Police Station in West Garo Hills district.

According to sources, Shamsul Haque had gone to Dimapara village bordering the South Garo Hills district along with a driver to buy betel nuts. He went with two motorcycle-borne persons who came to receive him, but did not return.

We suspect that the case could be one of kidnapping. The driver returned when Haque did not come back. A search operation has been launched though there has been no trace of him so far, said Superintendent of Police in-charge, Dalton Marak.

Early last month, a trader and a driver were waylaid in a place under the Dalu PS where they were allegedly murdered after being looted by a criminal gang that lured them with business promises.

While the traders body was found the next day, the body of the driver was found a few days later. Three to four criminals were arrested in the case.
