Assam trader allegedly abducted in Garo Hills

TURA, June 12 - A trader from Goalpara in Assam, who sold clothes in the weekly market at Najing Bazaar here, has been missing since Saturday under mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Police have launched a search operation to locate him.

According to information available, Ismail Sheikh left his stall during the market hours and did not return home. He later made a call to his brother at Goalpara, claiming that he had been abducted by some unidentified persons.

Sheikh claimed that the abductors came to his stall to buy clothes and asked him to collect the payment from their house. When he followed them, he was allegedly abducted. The abductors have reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from his brother.

�We have identified a few suspects and are looking at all aspects of the case,� said the SP of West Garo Hills, Dr MGR Kumar.
