Assam to offer assistance to poor youths working or studying outside State

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 13: In view of the lockdown, the Assam government will offer financial assistance to poor youths studying or working outside the State who are now stranded.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government in collaboration with Piramal Foundation has roped in 400 volunteers from Assam Engineering College, Gauhati University and Cotton College to assist in identifying such youths currently stranded outside the State.

The youths, seeking the assistance, will have to give a missed call to the number 9615471547, after which a voice message and a link will be sent to them for submitting their details.

“Some may not have smartphone or internet connectivity. Our volunteers will personally call up the persons within 48 hours to get their details after receiving the missed call. The DCs will then verify the claims after which the government will disburse a certain amount in their accounts,” Sarma said, adding that the amount will depend on the number of beneficiaries.

The assistance will be given to poor and lower middle income groups youths.
