GUWAHATI, Jan 16 � Assam will have to go empty- handed in the 75th Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships as the home teams went down in all the categories of the team events.

On the second day of the championship at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here today, the Assam junior girls team comprising of Kritika Upadhaya, Akansha Bhuyan, Jitakhee Mazumdar and Adrija Sarme went down to Maharashtra 1-3 in the quarterfinal stage.

The Assam youth girls team also was beaten by Kerala 3-0 in the pre-quarterfinals. Likewise, the Assam youth boys team was beaten by Maharashtra 3-1 in the pre- quarterfinals. All the teams earlier qualified from the group league stage.

Meanwhile, the Petroleum and Sports Promotion Board Academy (PSPBA) boys became the first team to make it to the quarterfinal stage in the junior boys team event. The PSPB boys defeated Kerala 3-0 and will now take on Tamil Nadu, who defeated Gujarat 3-1, in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
