GUWAHATI, April 28 - India Skills Assam 2018, organised by the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) with support from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the executive arm of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), came to a successful end here.

Held from April 18 to 26, the event saw participation from 188 candidates in 11 different skill categories including restaurant service, fashion technology, graphic design technology and web design development.

The traditional craft of making a Sattra Mask a skill unique to Assam piqued the interest of the audience. The masks are commonly used to portray characters from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. They are large in size and made from locally available material like bamboo, cane, cloth and vegetable dyes.

India Skills is a wonderful opportunity for the youth of Assam to showcase their skills at the national level. By including indigenous skills in the competitions, we aim to provide a platform for them to develop, said ASDM Director Anand Prakash Tiwari.

Vocational institutes such as the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology, Guwahati; Tool Room & Training Centre, Guwahati; Assam Down Town University, Guwahati; Signature TCAI; Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati, helped conduct the competitions.

The winners have qualified for the national India Skills Competition 2018 to be held in July. The winners of the national competition will get a chance to compete in the World Skills Competition 2019 to be held in Kazan, Russia.
