Assam Seeds Corporation godown inaugurated

GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora today instructed the Assam Seeds Corporation to ensure that the seeds meant for farmers reach the genuine beneficiaries.

Bora further announced that officials and workers of the Corporation or the agriculture department, or traders found guilty of diverting the seed supply away from the genuine beneficiaries would be strictly punished.

A seed godown of the Corporation with 800 metric-tonne capacity was inaugurated by the Minister at Sixmile here today. The cost of seed storage project is Rs 50 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, Bora said to ensure transparency in all the projects of the department, the system of e-tendering is being introduced. Under the seed village scheme, cheques worth about Rs 79 lakh were distributed among the district units of the Assam Seed Corporation, an official statement said.
