TINSUKIA, Aug 3 � Assam Rifles, Shillong emerged champions in the coveted Bodousa Cup Football Championship.
In the final played at the Katchujan Field here today, the Shillong team outshot Oil India Limited Football Club, Duliajan 4-1 in penalty shoot-out. In the regulation time, both the teams netted one goal each.
Raju Konwar put his team ahead in the first session and till the break they maintained the lead. But after changing over, N Chetry drew parity and dragged the match to extra time and tie-breaker.
In the shoot-out, the riflemen struck thrice while the Duliajan boys failed to hit the target.
The winning team received a cash award of Rs 1 lakh along with the Bodousa Cup while the OIL FC became richer by Rs 50,000. The championship was organised by the Bodousa Sports Club under the aegis of Assam Football Association (AFA) and Tinsukia District Sports Association.
AFA president Hemendra Nath Brahma, secretary Ankur Dutta, Tinsukia SP Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Tinsukia DSA officials Dr Brajen Gohain, Juga Dutta, Arunjyoti Moran were present in the closing function. A souvenir � titled Bodousa was released on the occasion.
