Assam Rifles seizes drugs in Manipur

IMPHAL, Nov 10 - The Assam Rifles troops claimed to have seized drugs worth Rs 10.40 lakh during checking of a bus at Khudengthabi check post in Manipur�s Tengnoupal district.

According to a press release from the headquarters of the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South), a bus bearing registration number MN 0601BA 0066 was stopped for checking on Friday.

During the routine checking, the troops recovered two packets of heroin weighing approximately 26 grams valued at Rs 10.4 lakh from a passenger, who was identified as Lalkhogou (64) of Churachandpur district.

The accused and the seized contraband were handed over to Moreh police for further investigation, the release added. Some days ago, the Assam Rifles troops had seized 19 packets of drugs worth Rs 92 lakh in the same area.

In the same check post, the Assam Rifles troops had also seized WY Tablets from a modified concealed compartment of a bus and arrested a person in this connection recently.

Methamphetamine tablets, which contain caffeine, are popularly known as WY or World is Yours tablets. These tablets are smoked, snorted, ingested or injected by addicts and considered to more harmful than amphetamine to the cardio vascular and central nervous systems.

The WY tablets along with apprehended individual were handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal, for further probe.
