HAFLONG, Nov 23 � The people of Dima Hasao have finally heaved a sigh of relief as the recent operations by the Assam Rifles in the district have eliminated almost 12 hardcore terrorists, including eight from the NSCN (IM) group.
With the onset of the festival season, extortion demands were being placed by these groups. The people were fed up with the anti-social activities, whose sole agenda is to make money by brandishing weapons and threats of kidnapping. The district has already been witness to a violence-ridden decade which has pushed this beautiful area into an era of backwardness.
The local populace has shown tremendous confidence in the security forces for their prompt response. It is high time the people thwart the nefarious designs of these militants, stay united and assist the security forces, was the general feeling here in recent times.
The Assam Rifles, true to their credo - �Friends of the Hill People� has ensured that with their dedication and hard work the nefarious designs of the insurgent groups are not fulfilled. Not only have the extortion demands gone down drastically, but now the people are coming forward to the police and security forces to report cases of any threat perception. Such new-found confidence amongst the locals is unprecedented.
The conscious citizens of Dima Hasao are of the opinion that the Assam Rifles personnel stationed at Haflong are gaining the local people�s support as they have been constantly toiling in order neutralise insurgency and to maintain peace.
