GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) congratulated the Assam Ranji team and its captain Gokul Sharma for their historic performance in the Ranji Trophy this season.
Assam secured the quarterfinal stage berth from Group A where they had to face teams like Karnataka, Delhi, Bengal, Vidarbha, Haryana, Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan.
Since the opening match of the season against Karnataka, Assam has performed splendidly and caused major upsets against teams like defending champions Karnataka, former champions Delhi among others.
In the quarterfinal, Assam beat Punjab by 51 runs today at Valsad.
All the office bearers of the ACA celebrated the victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets at the Barsapara stadium here today. Assam will lock horns against Saurashtra in the semifinal.
The members of the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam also congratulated the Assam team for reaching the semifinal stage.
