Assam Police team fails to arrest Garga

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, June 23 - An Assam Police team that left for Kolkata to arrest Garga Chatterjee, who on his Twitter handle made offensive remarks on Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha, returned empty-handed on Tuesday due to lack of cooperation from the local police stations of West Bengal.

On Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowals directive, the team left for the West Bengal capital a few days ago to arrest Chatterjee for his derogatory remarks on Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha on social media.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said that due to non-cooperation of the West Bengal Police and various mass agitations, the team could not arrest Chatterjee. Further legal action will be initiated to nab Chatterjee soon, he said.

After Chatterjees derogatory remarks on Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha the architect of the greater Assamese identity several organisations in the State filed FIRs against him demanding his immediate arrest.
