Assam Police in touch with NE counterparts

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, April 1 - The Assam Police is in constant touch with its counterparts in neighbouring states of the Northeast to stop infiltration of any militants into the State in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press meet here today, Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia said that all the neighbouring states have been requested to increase security in the inter-state routes.

Since the last few days, we have built up a strong coordination with police departments of the northeastern states. I requested them to carry out strict checking in both train and other vehicles, so that members of any radical force or militant outfit cannot enter Assam. We are also ready to carry out joint operation, if needed, Saikia said.

The DGP said that 30 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been brought to Assam to strengthen the security arrangements during election time.

The whole State is under domination of police and other security forces. Activity of radical groups is also under scanner. We have strengthened both vigilance and patrolling, and are ready to tackle any kind of poll-related violence, he said.

According to the DGP, the number of vulnerable areas in the State is a dynamic one and it keeps on changing. Initially, we identify a vulnerable area by analysing the history of law and order situation and then deploy security force as needed. The situation in a particular area is assessed every day and action taken accordingly, he said.
