Assam Police clinch soccer title

DERGAON, Nov 30 � Assam Police clinched the title of the 60th Bhala Nath Mullick Police Championship today. In the final match played at PTC Stadium, Assam Police defeated Manipur 1-0. The victory goal was scored by Karuna Gayari with the help of Murra Limboo in the 52nd minute.

Though the first half of the match was dominated by Manipur, they could not transform the chances to goals. Last years runners-up Punjab became the third best team when they defeated Tamil Nadu 2-1 in the match played in the morning.

In the match, Gurpeet Singh and Chiraj Hasan of Punjab and G Satish Kumar of Tamil Nadu scored the goals.

I Nilakumar Singh of Manipur was declared as the highest scorer with 5 goals while CRPF was declared the winner in the fair play category.

In the closing ceremony Subhash Goswami, CMD of Assam Police Housing Board and RN Ravi, representative of the All India Police Sports Control Board took part as the chier guest and guest of honour respectively.

They also given away trophies. The highest scorer award comprised of Rs 10,000. It�s pertinent to mention that the All India Police Football Championship is named after Bhala Nath Mullick, the second direction of Intelligence Bureau (1952-63) in 1986. This time altogether 36 teams with 884 participants took part in the tournament.
