Assam players in AITA tourney semis

GUWAHATI, April 20 - Assam players put up a splendid show in the ongoing All India Championship Series Tennis Tournament at Bengal Tennis Association courts in Kolkata.

Rishav Brahma caused a major upset today by showing the door to top seed Dhananjay Govind. Rishav beat Govind in a closely contested match scoring 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 and stormed into boys� U- 16 Singles semifinals.

In another major upset Assam boy Medhansh Jain defeated top seed and India No.2 Hasit Srujan in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 and sailed into boys� U -12 singles semifinals.

Anchit Gogoi also had a smooth sail to the boys� U-12 semifinals. He beat Wyatt O Brian of Bengal 6-2, 6-1.

In the girls� section Kristi Boro was simply unstoppable. She stormed into the semifinals of both girls� U-12 and U-16 categories. In the U-12 category Kristi beat Mekhala Manna of Bengal 6-3, 6-0 and in U-16 category she defeated Sanya Yadav also of Bengal 6-4, 6-1. All the semifinals will be played tomorrow, informed Ankush Dutta, secretary of the All Assam Tennis Association.
