Assam-Meghalaya inter-state meeting held to thwart violence ahead of Assam polls

Following the recent guidelines from the Election Commission of India, an inter-state meeting was held on Friday between Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli IAS and Deputy Commissioner East Jayantia Hills, E. Kharmalki IAS at the Forest Inspection Bungalow of Umkiang, Meghalaya on Friday in presence of DIG Southern Range Dilip Kumar Dey, Superintendent of Police Cachar Bhanwar Lal Meena, Superintendent of Police East Jayantia Hills Deepak Palecha, Circle Officer of Katigorah Pranjit Deb, Superintendent of Taxes (Cachar) Debojit Ghosh, District Transport Officer (Cachar) Angshuman Biswas, Assistant Commissioner of Taxes (Cachar) Papori Niog and Assistant Inspector of Taxes Partha Chakraborty.

The Deputy Commissioners of both the districts assured working in camaraderie to thwart any such untoward incident during election times. The other officials in the meeting echoed the same unanimously.

DIG Southern Range Dilip Kumar Dey explained the purpose of the meeting and said that keeping in view of the ensuing Assembly Elections, both the states should work jointly along with all departmental heads to check illegal cash flow, liquor and other detrimental elements which may create mayhem in the atmosphere during the time leading to the polls. He further informed that more such meetings are contemplated in the coming days with the other bordering districts of Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Bangladesh.
