Assam lift national sub-junior hockey title

HOJAI, Jan 15 - Assam Hockey annexed the Hockey India 8th National Sub-junior Championship (Men) �B� Division title by outplaying Rajasthan Hockey 3-2 in the final at the Hojai Stadium on Sunday.

In the first half, Rajasthan Hockey scored twice with Shivam finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute while Romit Pal netted the second in the 31st minute.

In the second half, the hosts came from behind to snatch a well deserved victory. Manish Sahani netted the first goal for Assam in the 39th minute while he ensured his brace with a goal in the 57th minute. Abdula Khan netted the winner for Assam in the 69th minute.

Hockey Himachal defeated Hockey Him 1-0 to secure the third position.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal graced the occasion as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said, �We are very grateful to Assam Hockey, Hojai Sports Association, Hojai District Administration and the people of Hojai for the successful completion of this mega event in Hojai.�

The Chief Minister also announced cash incentives to the players of the winning team.

The tournament was organised by Assam Hockey and its secretary Tapan Kr Das, who is also treasurer of Hockey India, took initiative in hosting the championship.

Secretary NEC Ram Muivah, Lumding MLA Sibu Misra, Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, Assam Hockey secretary Tapan Kr Das, among others were present during the occasion.
