GUWAHATI, Jan 1 - Assam Jatiya Bidyalay celebrated its 27th foundation day today on its school campus.
The programme started at 9 am with the hoisting of the school flag, where all the teachers, students, guardians and the members of the management committee sang the State anthem.
After the welcome speech by Principal Ghanashyam Medhi, everyone offered sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved family of noted theatre personality Ratna Ojha, who died yesterday. It was followed by the �Bidyalay Sangeet� performed by some of the teachers of the school. Academic Officer Narendra Mohan Goswami distributed birthday cards among the students born on January 1. Thereafter, a chorus was presented by some students of the school.
Prominent Assamese actor, director and story writer Tapan Das was present as the chief guest of the function. He urged the Jatiya Bidyalays all over Assam to take the responsibility to enliven the Assamese culture and language. Management committee secretary Dr Narayan Sharma urged everyone to limit the use of mobile phones. Rector Ranjit Narayan Deka, Vice Principal Aparajita Bora and senior teacher Dhruba Sarma also spoke on the occasion.
