Assam Int�l film fest at Jorhat from March 7

JORHAT, March 1 � The fifth Assam International Film Festival-2014 is scheduled to be held with a four-day agenda from March 7 at the Muktijoddha Sri Sri Pitambar Dev Goswami auditorium in Jorhat, said the organisers in a press conference here on Thursday.

The Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI), in association with the Assam Film Society (AFS) is organising the film festival where audience will be able to enjoy several films directed by renowned artists from various Indian States like Assam, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and foreign countries including Bangladesh, Poland and many others.

�We are trying our best to fulfil the expectations of our valued audience. Before screening we are going to felicitate veteran film artist Mridula Baruah with the Nilima Das Film Award for life time achievement,� said Dr Jayanta Madhab Dutta, secretary of AFS.

Film critic of national repute Manoj Borpujari will inaugurate the festival in the presence of the FFSI vice president Premendra Mazumdar and film critic Rita Dutt.

On March 8, the organisers will screen movies like Jyoti Prasad�s Joymoti, Bhabendra Nath Saikia�s Agnisnan, Dr Santana Bordoloi�s Adajya and another Joymoti by Monju Bora.

�As March 8 is International Women�s Day, we are going to screen these movies which depict the role of women in the social, political and cultural arena in the State,� said the joint secretary of AFS Pranjal Bora.

The organisers said that the regional films will be given importance during this festival where many other programmes like seminars on vital issues will be held.
