Assam in dire straits against Delhi

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - Assam is trailing by 296 runs with 7 wickets in hand on the penultimate day of the Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara today.

Delhi declared their first innings at 589 for eight and thereby took a massive 396-run first innings lead.

In the second innings, Assam were 100 for three. KB Arun Karthik and Amit Verma were at the crease with 17 and 33 respectively.

Delhi resumed their first innings at an overnight total of 241 for three and went on hitting the Assam bowlers. Overnight batsmen Nitish Rana and Rishabh Rajendra Pant continued their dominating form and completed their centuries. While Pant took just 124 balls for his 146, Rana also scored 146 off 222 deliveries. Pant was in tremendous form and hit as many as 13 boundaries and eight sixes.

For Assam, pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed came out with a five-wicket haul giving away 106 runs.
