Assam Haj pilgrims in visa fix

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 4 - Pilgrims from Assam for this years Haj are in an inexplicable fix, courtesy an alleged lapse in arrangement of their visas.

According to sources, among the Haj pilgrims, as many as 90 from Assam including 26 from Barak Valley are almost on the threshold of coming back home sans making it to the holy place since the final aircraft for the pilgrims will fly from Kolkata on Monday.

Meanwhile, amidst assurances by the Kolkata-based travel agency of providing the visas to the pilgrims by Monday morning, newly-appointed Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly, Aminul Haque Laskar claimed that the chances for the pilgrims voyage to Haj are nearly impossible.

On his visit to Barak Valley on Sunday after taking charge as the Deputy Speaker, Aminul told reporters that he had visited Kolkata and spoken to the officials of the travel agency. He also had a meeting with the pilgrims stuck there.

My assessment of the circumstances state that there is a bleak possibility that the pilgrims in queue could get their visas this time, Aminul maintained.
