Assam-Gujarat Ranji tie from today

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 Assam will take on Gujarat in a Ranji Trophy Super League match here at the Nehru Stadium from tomorrow.

It will be sixth outing for both the teams. The visiting team has already gathered 10 points from five matches while the hosts have seven points in their coffer. Gujarat, led by Niraj Patel, arrived here last evening and had their workout session this morning.

Gujarat will definitely miss the services of players like Parthiv Patel and Siddharth Tiwari who are in good this season. Their chief coach Vijay Patel, however, said they have a good young team and hope to perform well on the Nehru Stadium track which he said is a sporting one. Along with captain Niraj Patel, Bhavik Thakar is in good form and are among the runs. Salil Yadav and Ishwar Choudhury are capable to wreck batting line-up as they are in tremendous shape this season. The match will be played on the same track where the last ODI between India and New Zealand was played. Curator Sunil Baruah also said both the teams will get the same advantage.

Assam captain Amol Mazumdar must perform in this match as the hosts need atleast three points. Dhiraj Jadhav and S Sriram are in good touch and Assam can hope reasonable contributions from their bats. Local lads Tarjinder Singh, who is certain to play tomorrow, and Gokul Sharma are also in good form. If these two can maintain their form, Assam can hope for a big total. Assams bowling coach Zaved Zaman, who is quite experienced with 123 Ranji wickets, said in this match Arlen Konwar has to play a vital role. He also hoped that Arlen will definitely cross the 200-wicket mark soon considering his present form.
