Assam Governor says he is not resigning

By The Assam Tribune

New Delhi, June 19 (IANS): Assam Governor JB Patnaik said today he was not resigning from his post.

"How many times I have to say that I am not resigning?" Patnaik told mediapersons after meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh here.

The comments followed speculation that the Home Ministry has urged some Governors appointed by the previous Congress government to quit.

"I did not have any talks about resigning. The meeting with the minister was not on (this) issue," he said.

Chhattisgarh Governor resigns: Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt has resigned but it is not clear if the resignation has been accepted, official sources said today.

Dutt, who took charge in January 2010, submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday, the sources said. There is no confirmation if his resignation has been accepted, the sources said.

Dutt's resignation came as surprise in political circles here as he was reportedly not under any pressure to quit. He is also said to enjoy good relations with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi resigned on Tuesday amid speculation that the Narendra Modi government wants some of the Governors appointed by the previous UPA regime to go.
