Assam girls go down fighting to Bengal

GUWAHATI, March 2 - In an Elite Group A match of the BCCI�s U-19 Women One-day Cricket Tournament at the NFRSA Stadium in Maligaon today, Assam went down to Bengal by 11 runs.

In an evenly fought encounter, Bengal scored 176 for six in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, Assam girls fell 11 runs short as they were restricted to 162 for eight.

The highlight of the match was a 64-ball 56 by Assam batswomen Priyanka Baruah.

In the other matches of the day, Maharashtra defeated Haryana by 100 runs at the Judges� Field. In reply to Maharashtra�s 173 for eight, Haryana folded their innings at 73.

At the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, Mumbai outplayed Odisha by nine wickets. Odisha put up a challenging total of 137 but the Mumbai batters had an easy time and gathered 138 for one to post a facile victory.

Brief scores of the Assam match: Bengal 176/6 (Priti Mondal 38, Bristi Maji 33, Tithi Das 30, Sneha Gupta 22; Anamika Bori 2/18). Assam 162/8 (Priyanka Baruah 56, Anamika Bori 48; Sushmita Ganguly 2/19, Piyali Ghosh 2/34).
