Assam girl wins Miss India title

GUWAHATI, April 10 - Making the Northeast proud, Priyadarshini Chatterjee of Assam clinched the coveted Femina Miss India 2016 title. Priyadarshini, who hails from Dhubri and is at present a student of Hindu College, Delhi, will represent India at the Miss World 2016 pageant. She is the first girl from the Northeast to win the crown.

At a scintillating star studded function held in Mumbai yesterday, Priyadarshini stole the show with her grace and elegance. Bengaluru�s Sushruthi Krishna was crowned the first runner-up and Lucknow�s Pankhuri Gidwani was the second runner-up.

The jury panellists included eminent personalities from the fashion and film industry and the finalists were judged on the basis of various parameters like talent, intelligence, poise and elegance.

Meanwhile, Priyadarshini�s family here has reacted with happiness at her achievement. They have hailed the development as a moment of pride not only for Assam but for the entire region.
