Assam girl Prerna becomes an inspiration

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 - Assam girl Prerna Choudhury has set an example for trekkers in the country by completing the Gobi March 2016, after having trekked 250 kilometres in six days.

The march began with an ascent to almost 3,000 metres of the Tian Shan mountain range in China and ended with an 80 kilometer stage in the harsh Black Gobi desert where temperatures crossed 50 degree Celsius.

Not everyones idea of a fun trip, this grueling foot-race called the Gobi March was conducted from June 19 to 26 as part of the four-desert series that includes the Atacama in Chile, the Sahara and the final desert the Antarctica, stated a press release.

She was the only Indian among 101 participants from 35 countries and the youngest one. A total of 88 participants completed the race.

The inspiration for Prerna was her brother Rhishavs memory. He died last year while hiking in the canyons of the Arizona desert.

She is currently working as an analyst with the World Bank and is based in Timor Leste (also known as East Timor). She is the daughter of former Assam DGP and ex-NSG DG Jayanto Narayan Choudhury and social worker Radha Choudhury.
