Assam facing defeat against Delhi

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 � Assam is in dire straits in their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Delhi.

On the third day of the four-day match at Delhi today, Assam were forced to follow on by the host and in the second innings the visitors were tottering at 183 for three. Dhiraj Jadhav and Gokul Sharma were at the crease with 69 and 25 respectively.

Chasing Delhi�s first innings total of 472, Assam were all out for 239 in their first knock. In the second innings, Assam played 56 overs and lost the wickets of Sib Sankar Roy (0), S Sriram (59) and Amol Mazumdar (21).

Assam resumed third day�s play with 118 for two on the board and started losing wickets from the initial stage. Captain Amol Mazumdar once again failed to deliver and was out for 14. Baring Dhiraj Jadhav and Rajdeep Das, other Assam batsmen failed miserably to hit form and were out cheaply. Jadhav (69) added 25 runs to his overnight total of 44. Rajdeep contributed an unbeaten 28.

Delhi pacers S Narwal and P Suyal were the wreckers- in-chief in Assam�s first innings with four and three wickets respectively while Pradeep Sangwan took two. In the second innings also Suyal bagged two Assam wickets for 34.

Assam still need 50 runs to score to make Delhi bat again. Now everything will depend on the forms of batsmen like Jadhav, Gokul, Parvez and Rajdeep who have to be cautious and bat with by their heads down. Assam batsmen have to carry their bat till post tea to save the match.
