Assam dominate in NE carrom

GUWAHATI, May 31 � Players of Assam dominated the 10th North East Zone Carrom Championship which was held at the Nagaon Sports Association�s Indoor Stadium from May 27 to 29, informed Assam Carrom Association secretary Pradip Kumar Hazarika.

It was, however, S Shakmi of Meghalaya who won the men�s singles title defeating Bijoy Rabha of Assam 5-12, 18-15, 21-6 in the final. In the women�s singles title clash, Debajani Tamuly of Assam downed her State mate Sarmila Bora 21-14, 21-0. The junior boy�s crown went to Sunu Choudhury who beat Rajib Baishya (both Assam) 21-9, 0-12, 21-0. Himakhi Baidya bagged the junior girl�s title with a 8-16, 15-11, 16-11 point victory against Jefrin Sultana.

Rankings: Men: S Shakmi (Meghalaya), Bijoy Rabha (Assam), Bunlang War (Meghalaya), Simanta Kr Bordoloi ((Assam). Women: V Khongsei (Meghalaya), Himakhi Baidya (Assam), S Mukhim (Meghalaya), L Kharmujai (Meghalaya), Naznin Sehnaz Hussain (Assam). Jr boy�s: Sunu Choudhury, Rajib Ahmed, Nekib Hussain, Nekbar Mullick (all Assam). Jr girl�s: Himakhi Baidya, Jefrin Sultana, Hasiba Begum, Munu Das (all Assam).

Nagaon SP Nitul Gogoi, sports organisers Dulal Nath, Tapan Das were present in the closing function as guests. Pradip Kr Hazarika gave details about the championship in his speech.
