Assam colts take lead against Goa

MANGALDAI, Dec 1 � Host Assam took 17-runs first innings lead with five wickets in hand against Goa on the opening day of the four-day U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy league match here today.

When stumps were drawn at the Mangaldai Stadium, Yatin Malik (56) and DJ Das (9) were at the crease.

In the Assam�s innings apart from Malik , Romereo Sarma (41) was the other notable contributor. Spinner AG Pandrekar was the chief wrecker for the visitors with a figure of 4 for 33 .

Earlier, electing to bat Goa were all out for a paltry 131 in 45.1 overs as Assam bowlers Rajjakuddin (4/51), Rausan Alam (2/2) and Mrinmoy Dutta (2/31) put Goa batsmen in all sorts of trouble right from the word go . Sofian Alam (54 n.o)and Bedanta Nayak (30) could show some resistance for the visiting team.

Meanwhile, during the morning session of the match a section of former Ranji cricketers of the State staged a strong protest in the venue against the ACA for including outside players in the State teams.
