Assam colts post innings win vs Jharkhand, in semis

GUAHATI, Jan 4 - Assam posted an innings and 27-run victory against Jharkhand and stormed into the last-four stage of the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy cricket tournament.

On the third day of the four-day quarterfinal match at the Barsapara cricket stadium here today, taking a first innings lead of 105 runs, Assam bundled out the opponent for a meagre 78 in the second innings. Thanks to a devastating spell by Akash Sengupta who claimed six wickets in 14 overs giving away just 33 runs.

Earlier, resuming at the overnight total of 259 for three, the host team crossed the 350 marks. Erik Roy contributed 87 which came off 201 deliveries. He cracked 12 boundaries in his most valuable knock.

Later, the visitors were in trouble from the initial stage losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Akash, Mukhtar Hussain and Rahul Singh took two wickets each.
