GUWAHATI, July 2 - The Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today staged a dharna at Christian Basti here, calling for fulfilment of their four demands.

Similar dharnas were staged across various districts where the ACC has its branches. Dharnas were also observed in other States and Union Territories jointly by the CAIT and others trade bodies, a press release said.

The four-point charter of demands includes opposing the acquisition of e-commerce company Flipkart by Walmart, simplification of GST, abolishing individual income tax, and introduction of pension for entrepreneurs.

At the end of the dharna in the city, a delegation of the Guwahati district committee of ACC submitted two separate memorandums to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister through the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner.

Apart from members of the Guwahati district committee, more than 100 people from various segments of the society participated in the demonstration.

The ACC statement said more such peaceful programmes would be taken up in the near future for fulfilment of their demands.
