Assam boys shine in NASA contest

DOOMDOOMA, May 18 � Devam Kakoty, a student of Class X of Shiksha, the Gurukul, has won the first prize in the individual category in the Grade-10 level in the NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2015. The design that Devam made was titled �Atlas�.

In Grade-11 level, S Sengupta of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Guwahati, has won the first prize.

This year, 994 entries from 3,007 students, sponsored by 380 teachers from 21 countries, including the US, the UK, India, China, Japan, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Bulgaria, UAE, were received for the contest, which was co-sponsored by the NASA Ames Research Center, San Jose State University, and the National Space Society.

Devam, son of Anil Kakoty and Ranjana Kakoty of the Talap Tea Estate of Doomdooma told this correspondent that he got the information of the contest via Internet and sent his design to the organisers by post. His success has made the people of Doomdooma proud. The Doomdooma Press Club and several organisations have congratulated him on this success.

Devam was also invited to participate in an international conference in Canada to be held from May 20, but he would not be able to attend it as he received the information late.
