GUWAHATI, March 9 � Assam today suffered setbacks in the finals of the National Veterans Table Tennis Championship in Jammu. Assam�s Soneswar Deka went down to Pankaj Sharma of Punjab 2-3 in the men�s section final.
In the women�s section final, Madalasa Barua lost to Mangalam Sharaf of Maharashtra 0-3. Earlier in the semifinals played in the morning, Soneswar Deka beat S Kalkar of Maharashtra 3-1.
It may be mentioned here that Assam won the men�s team title and the Assam pair of Madalasa Barua and Ghritachi Das won silver medals in the women�s doubles. The pair lost to Gujarat 2-3 in the final.
Madalasa also entered the final of the women�s singles defeating defending champion A Aparna of Maharashtra.
