Assam 6th in GSDP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - The Central Government has, in a report, ranked Assam sixth in the country in matters of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

Following this, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today claimed that this Central Government report has proved wrong Union Minister and State BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal, who had alleged that the States economy has become stagnant.

In a statement here, Gogoi said the report, brought out by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, has shown Assam holding the sixth position in GSDP. Assams GSDP growth (at current prices) in 2014-15 stands at 15.26 per cent.

The Government of Indias latest report is a pointer to the fact that the State Government has been able to improve upon the GSDP parameter vis-a-vis developmental activities with the active help and cooperation of the people, Gogoi said, adding that the sixth position bagged by Assam among 33 States is a matter of pride for Assam and its people.
