ASPL quarterfinals from July 7

GUWAHATI, July 3 � The knockout stage of the Assam State Premier League (ASPL) will kick-start with the quarterfinal matches on July in home and away basis.

Top four teams in each group have qualified for the quarterfinals after completion of the preliminary round. Accordingly, FC Green Valley, Baarhoongkha AC, Tezpur United and Guwahati FC from the Lower Assam Zone, Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC, Trinayanjyoti, Chabua, Moran TC and Golaghat Rhino from Upper Assam Zone captured the top four positions.

The knockout stage will be played in home and away basis and the format of the Champions League of Europe will be followed. The team scores more in aggregate will be the winner. In case of same number of goals scored in both the matches, the team that scores more in away match will qualify for the semifinals. But if everything remains the same, extra time and tie-breaker will be applied.

On July 7, Morning Star will host Tezpur United at Diphu and FC Green Valley will play their home match in Guwahati against Golaghat Rhino. Their return matches will be played on July 11 at Tezpur and Golaghat respectively.

The other quarterfinals, scheduled on July 8, will be played between Baarhoongkha AC and Guwahati FC at Kokrajhar and Trinayanjyoti which will take on Moran TC at Chabua. Their return matches are slated for July 12.

The trophies of the championship were unveiled here today with the schedule of the knockout stage. Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta and officials of the Celebrity Management Group, the sponsor of the championship, were present on the occasion.
