GUWAHATI, Aug 11 � The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has vested the authority with Assam State Open Schooling (ASOS) to enroll/to conduct public examination and provide HS-level certificate which is equivalent to the certificate issued by any other National/State-level boards.
A statement from the AHSEC said that learners could join any college and professional institution after completing their studies from the ASOS course if they kept in mind the requirement(s) of the universities they wished to join.
�The Gauhati University vide its Notification No. GU/AC/Equ.Com/20.11/844-848 dated 22.7.2011 has accorded equivalent status to the students who passed from Assam State Open Schooling with the students who passed +2 stage from the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or any other Board recognized by the university,� it said.
The process of opening of the ASOS was started by the Council in 2007 with permission from the National Institute of Open Schooling, an autonomous organization of the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, and following a decision of the Council.
Enrolment of learners into the course started with effect from September 2009 at the accredited study centres.
�The mission of the ASOS is to provide higher secondary-level education to all with special concern for girls and women, rural youth, working men and women and other disadvantaged persons who because of one or other reasons could not continue their education in +2 level with the formal system of education,� it said.
The ASOS operates through a network of a number of accredited study centres.
