GUWAHATI, July 3 - The owner cum director of the Assamese daily Asomiya Khabar, Rantu Das, breathed his last this morning at a private hospital in Guwahati.�
He was 57. He was admitted to the hospital with various ailments.
He leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary condoled the demise and extended condolences to members of the bereaved family.
In his message, Sonowal said that the people of Assam will remember Rantu Das� contribution to the field of Assamese media.
�His demise is an irreparable loss to the society,� he said.
The Guwahati Press Club and the Journalists� Forum Assam also mourned Das� death.
